International Certificate (6 units)

ATHE is a specialist travel, tourism and hospitality not for profit organisation who have been supplying UK Schools and Colleges with resources since 1997. We have now moved further afield and have students in most parts of the world.

The courses have been designed therefore with an international flavour, that is students who study in the UK, Mauritius or anywhere else in the world can confidently apply for work or university anywhere.

Whichever one of the above courses you decide to take will of course depend on your personal circumstances, ability and experience but as a specialist we are flexible. If for example you take the Diploma course and then find out afterwards that you want to complete the course earlier, you can just continue to the Certificate Level. Also if you do the Diploma or Certificate, you can continue to the Advanced by just adding some more units. People who work in the Tourist industry have to be flexible and we are doing our part in that respect.

Why are we so inexpensive

There are several reasons why we are much cheaper than other companies offering not such good courses -

  • We are a not for profit association registered at Companies House, UK.
  • We do not print expensive brochures
  • We do not spend a fortune on marketing
  • We do not pay large commissions to salespeople
  • All our courses are online
  • Most of our business comes from established centres and recommendations.

Likely career prospects

Travel, Tourism and Hospitality is a major
growth industry and at present the demand
for qualified staff outstrips supply.

Major events such as the Commonwealth
Games in Delhi and the London Olympics
two years later will be a catalyst for the
industry which will continue for years after.
The effects of this will not just be in places
such as London or Delhi but throughout
the country. Now is the time to take
advantage of these opportunities.

After completion of the course you can
go on to take a BA Tourism Studies degree at
Anglia Ruskin University.

An Advanced Diploma is level 5 which is the equivalent to the 1st year of a degree.

Qualification

Students take courses for a variety of reasons. It may be to try and gain promotion within an organisation or it may be to increase self knowledge of the industry. If it is a qualification, then all of the three courses here are accredited by a government recognised UK awarding body and as such the Level 4 and 5 courses should get you into a UK University to take a degree if that is what you want. If you feel that you need advice before or during the course we have a member of staff who is a qualified Careers Officer (Dip.C.G.)University of Wales. You will need to complete the registration form providing full details before any advice is given.

  How you are assessed

You are assessed by means of a written examination An optional assignment can be done by arrangement with ATHE. If you take the course at a centre you will also be able to take the examination at that centre. However, if you take the course online directly with ATHE you will take the course at the nearest centre or at the British Council. In some circumstances you will be allowed to take the examination at home or office.

Before taking any examination you will have had past papers to practice on. If in the unlikely event that you do not reach the standard required first time, you will be able to try again a month later at no extra cost.

  Ways to take the course

You can attend one of our centres available in many countries. You will then get the personal attention and be able to meet other students. However, that is not always possible and an excellent alternative will be to take the course directly with ATHE using online resource. You will also have the facility to get hard copies if you wish. Some of the advantages of this type of learning is -

  1. It is flexible and allows you to select the best time to study to suit your own circumstances. It also provides you the flexibility to remain in full-time employment. You can continue to earn while you learn. It is easy to combine home and work life with distance learning?
  2. You can study when and where it suits you best and you do not need to attend timetabled lectures or tutorials. You can also if need be take a study break or defer your studies for a short while.
  3. As a distance learning student, you will be registered as a student of the Association of Tourism and Hospitality Executives. On completion of the course you can become a full member.
  4. You can contact your local tutor for assistance and advice anytime. Any additional support is included in the normal cost of the programme.
